“Pokrovskie Vorota is a cult Soviet musical comedy-drama film from 1982 by Mikhail Kozakov, based on the 1974 play by Leonid Zorin. The film became one of the main symbols of Soviet cinema of the pre-Perestroika era. The comedy takes place in the 1950s in Moscow. Konstantin Romin comes to Moscow to study history and stays with his aunt Alisa Vitalyevna, who lives there in a communal apartment. Soon Kostik’s life becomes intertwined with the lives of other residents. Among them are Margarita Pavlovna and her ex-husband Lev Khobotov, a publisher of foreign poetry, and her new beau, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War and an engraver who became a teacher, Savva Ignatyevich.”
