[EN] Q & A is a series of collaborations initiated by Various Artists with fellow artists who are active in different fields of the art world. The fourth Q & A they organise highlights a longterm collaboration with Julia Droga.

JUSQU’À CE QUE LA MORT NOUS SÉPARE investigates four themes: le Sang, la Mort, la Haine & l’Argent, resulting in several exhibitions and performances the coming years.
The project wants to expose the present, socially, politically and economically. The shifts that are currently taking place in these domains have major consequences for future generations.
Julia Droga and Various Artists begin their investigation in the art world that for them symbolises the failure of capitalism. They investigate how poetry can make a difference in the biotope of performances and audiovisual artworks, and how the future lies in collaboration on all levels, in all niches.
By combining two divergent research methods, the artists, each with their own background, hope to arrive at a meaningful collaboration. They want to transcend boundaries of language, gender and age to make a statement in an art world that today is still too focused on Western patriarchal thinking. It will be a confrontation between two characters who together form an unusual amalgam of personalities, generations and opinions.

Part 1: le Sang

In n0dine, one of Aude Thensiau’s studios (o Porto) is recreated. This set will house a long-term performance by the two artists. Aude, a fictional character, will be performed by the duo in the white cube, creating a dialogue between two beings that are closely linked. The performance highlights the historical dimension of a moment in Aude’s life.
The space becomes both a stage and a backstage, allowing Aude to appear and disappear in public. Through the window of the exhibition space, the audience becomes witness to the intimacy of a ruinous presence. The installation as an art object becomes the metaphor for a young artist confronted with an art world that is not interested in the well-being of her main creative force.
“She stayed alone. She was not a loner. She was just alone.”

De vierde Q & A die ze organiseren belicht een een langlopende samenwerking met Julia Droga.

JUSQU’À CE QUE LA MORT NOUS SÉPARE onderzoekt vier thema’s: le Sang, la Mort, la Haine & l’Argent resulterend in verschillende tentoonstellingen en performances in de komende jaren.
Het project wil het heden blootleggen, op sociaal, politiek en economisch vlak. De verschuivingen die momenteel plaatsvinden in deze domeinen hebben grote gevolgen voor toekomstige generaties.
Julia Droga en Various Artists beginnen hun onderzoek in de kunstwereld die voor hen symbool staat voor het mislukken van het kapitalisme. Ze onderzoeken hoe poëzie in een biotoop van performances en audiovisuele kunstwerken het verschil kan maken en willen aankaarten dat de toekomst ligt in samenwerking op alle niveaus, in alle niches.
Door twee uiteenlopende onderzoeksmethoden te combineren, hopen de kunstenaars met elk hun eigen achtergrond, tot een zinvolle samenwerking te komen. Zij willen grenzen van taal, geslacht en leeftijd overschrijden om een statement te maken in een kunstwereld die vandaag de dag nog te veel gericht is op het Westerse patriarchale denken. Het wordt een confrontatie tussen twee personages die samen een ongewoon amalgaam van persoonlijkheden, generaties en opvattingen vormen.

Deel 1: le Sang

In n0dine wordt één van de ateliers (o Porto) van personage Aude Thensiau nagebouwd. Dit decor huist een langdurige performance van de twee kunstenaars. Aude zal als duo opgevoerd worden in de white cube, waarbij een dialoog tot stand wordt gebracht tussen twee wezens die nauw met elkaar verbonden zijn. De performance belicht de historische dimensie van een moment in het leven van Aude.
De ruimte wordt zowel een toneel als een backstage, zodat Aude in de openbaarheid kan verschijnen en verdwijnen. Door het venster van de tentoonstellingsruimte wordt het publiek getuige van de intimiteit van een ruïneuze présence. De installatie als kunstobject wordt de metafoor voor een jonge kunstenaar geconfronteerd met een kunstwereld die niet geïnteresseerd is in het welzijn van haar belangrijkste scheppende kracht.
“Ze bleef alleen. Ze was geen eenling. Ze was gewoon alleen.”

 

[EN] Julia Droga verkent thema’s over het lichaam, taal, hermeneutiek en het potentieel voor divergentie, ruptuur of (on)begrip. Haar onderzoek is voornamelijk gebaseerd op verschijnselen van alternering, waarbij de  intermediair een noodzakelijke rol opneemt om een actie te volbrengen of een verlangen te bevredigen. In haar praktijk gebruikt zij verschillende media, als obscure verzoenende middelen met dubieuze regels en onzekere effecten.
[NL] Julia Droga explores themes of the body, language, hermeneutics and the potential for divergence, rupture or (mis)understanding. Her research is mainly based on phenomena of alternation, where the intermediary assumes a necessary role in order to accomplish an action or satisfy a desire. In her practice, she uses various media, as obscure conciliatory devices with dubious rules and uncertain effects.

[EN] Various Artists investigates the sustainability of the artist as a brand. This long-term practice research includes opening up their modus operandi to other artists/collectives and experimenting with auto-generative art production. While challenging the limits of the art market, Various Artists explore the possibilities of shared (fictional) authorship.
[NL] Various Artists onderzoeken de duurzaamheid van de kunstenaar als merk. Dit lange termijn praktijkonderzoek omvat het openstellen van hun modus operandi voor andere kunstenaars/collectieven en het experimenteren met auto-generatieve kunstproductie. Terwijl ze de limieten van de kunstmarkt uitdagen, verkennen Various Artists de mogelijkheden van gedeeld (fictief) auteurschap.
