[EN] During its two-month residence at Le Vecteur Charleroi, Stephanie Roland discovered that the city of Charleroi is exactly the opposite of the “Inaccessibility Sea Pole” also named Point Nemo. This geographical point is the furthest away from all forms of human life and terrestrial space. A perfect starting point for Stéphanie whose favorite themes are ghost places, as well as the immaterial and invisible entities generated by the Western world. 

Following this research she made a trip on Buratinas, in good company with Alice and Marthe, probing the bottom of the canal, on the way to Charleroi.

She fictively explored this underwater point at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean through experiments on local water points. The artist has created his own camera, a hydride object halfway between a sonar and an astronomical instrument for measuring exoplanets, which works thanks to sound waves.

 

[NL] Tijdens haar verblijf van twee maanden in Le Vector Charleroi, ontdekte Stephanie Roland dat de stad Charleroi precies het tegenovergestelde is van de “Inaccessibility Sea Pole”, ook wel Point Nemo genoemd. Dit geografische punt is het verst verwijderd van alle vormen van menselijk leven en de aardse ruimte. Een perfect startpunt voor Stéphanie, wiens favoriete thema’s spookplekken zijn, evenals de immateriële en onzichtbare entiteiten die door de Westerse wereld worden gegenereerd.

Na dit onderzoek maakte ze een tochtje op Buratinas, in goed gezelschap van Marthe en Alice, om de bodem van het kanaal af te tasten op weg naar Charleroi.

Ze verkende dit onderwaterpunt op de bodem van de Stille Oceaan fictief door middel van experimenten op lokale waterpunten. De kunstenaar heeft zijn eigen camera gemaakt, een hydride-object dat het midden houdt tussen een sonar en een astronomisch instrument voor het meten van exoplaneten, en operatief dankzij geluidsgolven.

[FR] Pendant ses deux mois de résidence au Vecteur Charleroi, Stéphanie Roland à découvert que la ville de Charleroi est l’exact opposé du « pôle maritime d’inaccessibilité » aussi appelé le Point Nemo. Ce point géographique est celui qui se situe le plus loin de toutes formes de vie humaine et d’espace terrestre. Un point de départ parfait pour Stéphanie qui s’intéresse tout particulièrement aux « lieux fantômes » autant qu’aux entités immatérielles et invisibles générées par l’occident.

A la suite de cette recherche elle a voyagé sur le Buratinas avec Marthe et Alice, sondant le fond du canal, en direction de Charleroi.
