[EN] Contained Contexts Containing (dmk) is an exhibition by the Estate of Kasper Demeulemeester. This estate has come to life two years ago as a way to disseminate the everyday practicalities of Kasper Demeulemeester. The estate offers a framework to represent time lived and a way to publicly share the experience of this specific person divulging the inconsequentialities of our own positions. 

The exhibition Contained Contexts Containing (dmk) presents work of the estate and hosts the performance On Strike where Kasper Demeulemeester irons clothes while watching all the YouTube videos he has ever seen and those he still wants to see in the semi-public context of the n0dine gallery space. In his continuing research on the themes of absence and presence, this performance deals with the questions: what does it mean to be present? How can acts of life be (re)presented in the white gallery space? By repeating them, by recontextualising them?

The Estate questions moreover how ‘work’ is related to being retired? What can ‘work’ mean in the ambition-less context (cf. the L. Bourgeois fragment below) Kasper tries to create with the Estate? Is ‘work’ that what we ‘have to’ do? How is ‘work’ different from ‘life’? 

[NL] Contained Contexts Containing (dmk) is een tentoonstelling van de Nalatenschap van Kasper Demeulemeester. Dit Nalatenschap is twee jaar geleden ontstaan als een manier om de alledaagse praktijk van Kasper Demeulemeester te ontsluiten. De nalatenschap biedt een kader om de geleefde tijd weer te geven en een manier om de ervaring van deze specifieke persoon publiekelijk te delen en zo de inconsequentie van onze eigen posities te onthullen.

De tentoonstelling Contained Contexts Containing (dmk) presenteert werk uit de Nalatenschap en presenteert de performance On Strike waarin Kasper Demeulemeester kleren strijkt in de semi-publieke context van de n0dine galerie ruimte terwijl hij alle YouTube video’s bekijkt die hij ooit zag en en deze die hij nog ‘moet’ zien. In het langdurig onderzoek naar de thema’s afwezigheid en aanwezigheid gaat deze performance dieper in op de vraag: wat betekent het om aanwezig te zijn? Hoe kunnen acties uit het dagelijks leven worden ge(re)presenteerd in de witte galerieruimte? Door ze te herhalen, door ze te hercontextualiseren?

De Nalatenschap vraagt zich bovendien af hoe ‘werk’ zich verhoudt tot gepensioneerd zijn? Wat kan ‘werk’ betekenen in de ambitieloze context (cfr. fragment tekst van L. Bourgeois) die Kasper met de Nalatenschap tracht te creëren? Is ‘werk’ dat wat we ‘moeten’ doen? Waarin verschilt ‘werk’ van ‘leven’?

[FR] Contained Contexts Containing (dmk) est une exposition organisée par La succession de Kasper Demeulemeester. Cette succession a vu le jour il y a deux ans afin de promouvoir la diffusion des pratiques quotidiennes de Kasper Demeulemeester. La succession propose un cadre de travail par lequel représenter le temps vécu, et une manière de partager publiquement l’expérience journalière d’une personne singulière.  Le but étant de mettre en lumière l’inconséquence de nos positions.
