[EN] From 15 April to 15 June, bolwerK will inhabit three diverse atmospheric locations around Brussels with it’s open biochemical lab sessions : W-O-L-K-E , a former public broadcast studio; the World Trade Centre (Constant vzw Studio) a relic to Brussels’ modernist ambitions; and Buratinas (via nadine) a floating lab inhabiting the city’s much contested Canal Zone – each spaces with their own distinctive history, architecture, and climatological conditions.
In each of these places, we propose a practice of ‘crystalling’: sessions in which we perform the lab to grow piezo-electric crystals. These piezo-crystals, Rochelle Salt, are home-grown mineral formations which under physical pressure give electric signals which that can be amplified and converted into sound.

[NL] Van 15 april tot 15 juni organiseert bolwerK op drie verschillende atmosferische locaties in Brussel de ‘open biochemical lab sessions’: W-O-L-K-E, een voormalige openbare radiostudio; het World Trade Center (Constant vzw Studio) een overblijfsel van de modernistische ambities van Brussel; en Buratinas (via nadine) een drijvend lab dat de veel omstreden kanaalzone van de stad bevaart – elke ruimte met een eigen geschiedenis, architectuur en klimatologische omstandigheden.
Op elk van deze plaatsen wordt de praktijk van het ‘crystelling’ voorgesteld: labsessies waarbij piëzo-elektrische kristallen groeien. Deze piëzo-kristallen, Rochelle Salt, zijn zelf gekweekte minerale formaties die onder fysieke druk elektrische signalen geven die kunnen worden versterkt en omgezet in geluid.

Le World Trade Centre (Constant asbl Studio), une relique des ambitions modernistes bruxelloises. Et le Buratinas (nadine) un laboratoire flottant sur le très controversé canal de Bruxelles. Ces trois lieux ayant chacun leur histoire, leur architecture et leurs conditions climatologiques propres.
