From 23 March to 8 April nadine and Wandering Arts Biennial 2018 present the exhibition “Dog House City” by Christian Hansen at nadine/dinA (Nieuwbrug 3 Rue du Pont Neuf, 1000 Brussels).

[EN] Christian Hansen is a Danish artist whose work reveals the precarious distinction between fiction and reality, and the ways in which our mind’s framework unintentionally imitates (and thus leaves unchallenged) the systemic and hierarchical structures inherent in life. For this purpose he deploys a variety of materials, such as video and sound for example, or his archive of observations, that relate to the infrastructural nature of cities and landscapes. Many of his performances, videos, and installation pieces underscore patterns of movement that repeat themselves in different spaces and places, and emphasize the ways in which these movements are connected to their surroundings. Most of his pieces – while autonomous in their own right – are in fact narratives that have been extracted from a larger whole; series of ongoing processes and activities that have no finite end in sight.

[NL] Christian Hansen is een Deense kunstenaar wiens werk het precaire onderscheid tussen fictie en realiteit blootlegt. Alsook de manieren waarop onze geest de systematische en hiërarchische structuren die inherent zijn aan het leven onbewust imiteert. Hiervoor gebruikt hij verschillende materialen, zoals video en geluid of zijn archief van observaties, die gelinkt zijn aan de infrastructurele aard van steden en landschappen. Veel van zijn performances, video’s en installaties onderstrepen bewegingspatronen die zich in verschillende ruimtes en plaatsen herhalen. Ze benadrukken de manieren waarop deze bewegingen verbonden zijn met hun omgeving. De meeste van zijn werken – hoewel ze autonoom op zichzelf staan – zijn in feite verhalen die zijn geëxtraheerd uit een groter geheel; als een reeks lopende processen en activiteiten waar geen eindig eind in zicht is.

Christian Hansen is a participating artist of WAB 2018 / neemt deel aan WAB 2018.

Dans mon travail j’utilise cette frontière fine comme un outil de narration. Je tente de montrer comment l’esprit négocie avec cette incertitude et comment il actionne constamment et sans le vouloir des structures systémiques et hiérarchiques comme moyen de compréhension. »
