[EN] JUNK OFFICE – LABORATORY FOR A NEW LIFESTYLE
“We love to experiment with new and alternative lifestyles, to extract ourselves from the world and rethink it while sleeping on it. We met in February 2015 at an experimental carnival. Since then we have been meeting on a regular basis to fulfill our need for life experiences. We turn everything upside down in order to set ourselves apart from everyday life and observe society from a distance. We tackle the three most fundamental aspects of everyday life : to eat, sleep and work. Our dynamic duo allows us to rapidly project ourselves into delirious fictions and to fully realize them.”, Clément Thiry & Chloé Schuiten.

Under the aegis of the Wandering Arts Biennial, which combines a series of events highlighting art forms related to nomadism, ISELP welcomed Chloé Schuiten and Clément Thiry as artists in residence. Working together since 2015, they stopped wandering and experimenting with their “Laboratory for alternative living” to reflect on the meaning of the actions and forms they have produced together: a collection of objects, drawings, photographs, documents, etc.

For the end of their residence at ISELP and in collaboration with Greylight Projects and curator Maud Salembier, the two artists are exhibiting some of their past actions : experimentation capsules in different spaces and times, which question the notions of productivism, energy management, and the relationship to time, food and sleep.

“We houden ervan om te experimenteren met nieuwe en alternatieve levensstijlen, om ons te onttrekken aan de wereld en deze te heroverwegen terwijl we erop slapen. We ontmoetten elkaar in februari 2015 op een experimenteel carnaval. Sindsdien komen we regelmatig samen om onze behoefte aan levenservaringen te vervullen. We zetten alles op zijn kop om ons te onderscheiden van het dagelijks leven en de maatschappij op afstand te observeren. We pakken de drie meest fundamentele aspecten van het dagelijks leven aan: eten, slapen en werken. Ons dynamisch duo stelt ons in staat om ons snel in delirante ficties te projecteren en deze volledig te realiseren”, Clément Thiry & Chloé Schuiten.

Onder auspiciën van de Wandering Arts Biennial, die een reeks evenementen combineert die kunstvormen die gerelateerd zijn aan het nomadisme in de kijker zetten, verwelkomde ISELP Chloé Schuiten en Clément Thiry als artists in residence. Sinds 2015 werken ze samen en zijn ze gestopt met dwalen en experimenteren met hun “Laboratorium voor alternatief wonen” om na te denken over de betekenis van de acties en vormen die ze samen hebben geproduceerd: een verzameling van objecten, tekeningen, foto’s, documenten, enz.

Voor het einde van hun residentie bij ISELP en in samenwerking met Greylight Projects en curator Maud Salembier, stellen de twee kunstenaars enkele van hun vroegere acties tentoon: experimenteercapsules in verschillende ruimtes en tijden, die de begrippen productivisme, energiebeheer en de relatie tot tijd, voedsel en slaap in vraag stellen.

« Nous aimons expérimenter des styles de vie alternatifs en nous extrayant du monde pour nous permettre de le repenser avec une certaine distance. Nous nous sommes rencontrés en février 2015, lors d’un carnaval expérimental, depuis nous nous sommes revus régulièrement pour répondre à notre besoin d’expérimenter. En mettant les choses sens dessus dessous, nous nous attaquons aux trois aspects fondamentaux de la vie quotidienne : manger, dormir et travailler. Notre dynamique en duo nous permet de nous projeter dans des fictions délirantes et de les réaliser de façon totale. »

Sous l’égide du WAB (Wandering art biennial), qui promeut et met en lumière une forme d’art en lien avec le nomadisme, l’ISELP accueille Chloé Schuiten et Clément Thiry en résidence. Ils travaillent ensemble depuis 2015. Leur « laboratoire pour des modes de vie alternatifs » leur permet de réfléchir sur le sens des actions et des œuvres qu’ils ont produites jusque là : une collection d’objets, de dessins, de photographies, de documents …
