[EN] nadine presents the solo exhibition Script for a Beautiful Landscape with works by Samah Hijawi that continue her reflections on the role landscapes play in the stories, memories and identities that shape us. Mostly, her pieces take artistic works that represent Palestine (produced at different points across time) as a starting point to look closely at how the political is the represented in these works, thus offering a new way of reading them—sometimes with a bit of humour.
This exhibition complements Hijawi’s new performance Godefroid de Bouillon; the Bastard son of Antara Bin-Shaddad, which will be presented at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels in early December.

Samah Hijawi is an artist and researcher currently doing her PhD in Art Practice at ULB and the Academie Royale Des Beaux Art de Bruxelles, Belgium. In her multi-media works she explores the aesthetics of representation in artworks that allude to the histories of Palestine. Her works have been shown in The Hayward Gallery in London, BOZAR and Beurscchouwburg in Brussels, Bureau Europa- Maastricht, MoMa and Apex Art – New York; Darat al Funun – Amman, among others. She previously collaborated with Ola El-Khalidi and Diala Khasawneh in directing Makan Art Space (2003-2016), an independent space for contemporary art in Amman. And together with Shuruq Harb and Toleen Touq she co-curated the platform The River has Two Banks (2012-2017), initiated in to address the growing distance between Jordan and Palestine.

[NL] nadine presenteert de solotentoonstelling Script for a Beautiful Landscape met werken van Samah Hijawi die reflecteren over de rol die landschappen spelen in verhalen, herinneringen en identiteiten die ons vormen. Meestal neemt ze kunstwerken over Palestina (verschillende tijdsstippen gemaakt) als vertrekpunt om zelf werk te maken dat inzoomt op hoe politiek in deze werken ingebed zit. Zo biedt ze een nieuwe lezing ervan, soms voorzien van een beetje humor.
Deze tentoonstelling wordt georganiseerd naar aanleiding van Hijawi’s nieuwe performance Godefroid de Bouillon; the Bastard son of Antara Bin-Shaddad, die begin december in het Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Brussel wordt gepresenteerd.

Samah Hijawi is een kunstenaar en onderzoeker die momenteel doctoreert in de kunsten aan de ULB en de Academie Royale Des Beaux Art de Bruxelles, België. In haar multimediale werken verkent ze de esthetiek van de representatie in kunstwerken die verwijzen naar de geschiedenis van Palestina. Haar werken zijn onder meer te zien geweest in The Hayward Gallery in Londen, BOZAR en Beursschouwburg in Brussel, Bureau Europa-Maastricht, MoMa en Apex Art in New York; Darat al Funun in Amman. Eerder werkte ze samen met Ola El-Khalidi en Diala Khasawneh voor de Makan Art Space (2003-2016), een onafhankelijke ruimte voor hedendaagse kunst in Amman. En samen met Shuruq Harb en Toleen Touq was ze medecurator van het platform The River has Two Banks (2012-2017), geïnitieerd om de groeiende afstand tussen Jordanië en Palestina aan te pakken.

[FR] nadine présente l’exposition Script for a beautifull landscape avec le travail de Samah Hijawi qui poursuit sa réflexion sur le rôle joué par le paysage dans les histoires, les mémoires et les identités qui nous construisent. Ses œuvres s’appuient sur des représentations artistiques de la Palestine (de différentes époques) pour observer la façon dont le politique y est représenté, et nous offre ainsi une nouvelle manière de les regarder, parfois avec humour.
Cette exposition vient compléter sa nouvelle performance Godefroid de Bouillon, the Bastard son of Antara Bin-Shaddad, présenté au musée royal des Beaux Arts de Bruxelles début décembre.
