[EN] Since 2021, Kasper Demeulemeester has been in Moortebeek, the place where he moved to retire as an artist. His daily life is a reflection of the ubiquitous utopia there.

In 2022, he invited Jakob Van den Broucke to work there, with the perspective of the studio artist from Ostend. Together with a heap of other entities, they founded Section Moortebeek in 2023. Operating within the sphere of garden village Moortebeek and its absent archive, the section narrates utopian aspiration, generational transformation and cooperative effort. What that means, where that leads to, how you can relate to Moortebeek, all that takes shape in the environment Terminus Moortebeek that will be on display at Komplot from May 31 to June 9.

Part 2 of HOW NOW, the publication of Section Moortebeek, will also be presented there.

In addition, on June 9, election day, the section will organize Assembly ⟺ Disassembly, a meeting to collectively deal with our uncertainties regarding the results of the democratic (realised) utopia.

[NL] Sinds 2021 woont Kasper Demeulemeester in Moortebeek, de plaats waar hij naartoe verhuisde om met pensioen te gaan als kunstenaar. Zijn dagelijkse leven is een weerspiegeling van de er alomtegenwoordige utopie.

In 2022 nodigde hij Jakob Van den Broucke uit om in de wijk te werken, vanuit het perspectief van de atelierkunstenaar uit Oostende. Samen met een hoop andere entiteiten richtten ze in 2023 Afdeling Moortebeek op. Opererend binnen de sfeer van tuindorp Moortebeek en haar ontbrekende archief verhaalt de afdeling utopische ambities, generationele transformatie en coöperatieve inspanningen. Wat dat betekent, waar dat toe leid, hoe je je kunt verhouden tot Moortebeek: dat alles krijgt vorm in de omgeving Terminus Moortebeek die van 31 mei tot en met 9 juni te zien is bij Komplot.

Ook deel 2 van HOW NOW, de publicatie van Afdeling Moortebeek, wordt daar gepresenteerd.

Daarnaast organiseert de afdeling op 9 juni, de verkiezingsdag, Assembly ⟺ Disassembly, een bijeenkomst om gezamenlijk om te gaan met onze onzekerheden over de resultaten van de democratische (gerealiseerde) utopie.

[FR] Depuis 2021, Kasper Demeulemeester réside à Moortebeek, lieu où il a déménagé pour prendre sa retraite en tant qu’artiste. Son quotidien est le reflet de l’utopie qui y est omniprésente.

En 2022, il a invité Jakob Van den Broucke à y travailler, avec son point de vue de l’artiste d’atelier ostendais. Avec un tas d’autres entités, ils ont fondé la Section Moortebeek en 2023.
